I ate a few of these crackers before I realized they have honey in them :(
NOT VEGAN!!!

Dinner (3/16/11 7:15 PM)

Miso soup. Miso, wakame, kale, cilantro, cucumber, shoyu, sriracha and sesame seeds.

Dinner (3/16/11 7:25 PM)

detox retox

Yogi detox tea.

Dinner (3/16/11 5:28 PM)

And then my partner comes home and opens a bottle of red wine, which I can't seem to resist and watch him drink it all, so I have a small glass and pretty much cancel out the detox!

Dinner (3/16/11 5:59 PM)

more vitamins!

Ashwagandha.

(3/16/11 3:03 PM)

Dulse.

(3/16/11 4:26 PM)

mangosteen drink

Health drink? I've read that the benefits of mangosteens are found in the rind, so I steeped some mangosteen rinds into a tea then mixed it with sparkling mineral water and a little agave syrup.

Lunch (3/16/11 1:58 PM)

quinoa pasta

Pasta for lunch. Quinoa spaghetti with broccoli and tempeh in a sauce made of garlic, onion, sea salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, lemon juice and a big can of organic crushed tomatoes.

Tastes great just like this, but I sprinkled it with hemp seeds and nutritional yeast too for even more healthy goodness!

Lunch (3/16/11 1:53 PM)

smoothie

My morning smoothie: 2 bananas, ricemilk and Vega powder. What's in the Vega? Just about everything you need in a day!

Breakfast (3/16/11 10:58 AM)

noni spirulina

Noni and spirulina shot. Today I decide that since the noni juice tastes terrible (even though it's a special blend with tasty stuff added I haven't quite acquired a taste for it yet!) it can't be much worse if I just put a big spoonful of spirulina in there too. Whoaaaaaaaaa!!! Remember when you were a kid and it seemed so horrible to take your medicine? Flashback. I managed to keep it down and hope it's worth it!!!

(3/16/11 10:41 AM)

noni

My daily shot of noni juice.

(3/16/11 10:37 AM)

A bowl of simple miso soup: white chickpea miso, shoyu, wakame seaweed, sliced cucumber and sriracha. Yum!

Dinner (3/15/11 7:53 PM)

Snacking on a little dulse seaweed as I make some miso soup. Go iodine!

(3/15/11 7:14 PM)

vitamins

Another ashwagandha.

(3/15/11 4:29 PM)

daal

I add a can of peas (who bought that!?!) to the leftover daal and sprinkle a handful of sprouted lentils and beans on top. I don't love the peas but I'm out of greens and napped through this afternoon's farmers market so that's what I have!

Eagle digging in.

Lunch (3/15/11 3:53 PM)

tulsi tea

I didn't get far with the book today; napped the afternoon away instead... but getting rest is important for good health! When I wake I have some tulsi lemon ginger tea.

(3/15/11 3:00 PM)

the china study

My sweet friend and student Jennifer lent me this book today. If you haven't read it yet, you should! It’s full of powerful information from studies on the correlations between diet and health. I've read parts of it but never cover-to-cover... So this afternoon I’m getting cozy and digging in!

(3/15/11 11:31 AM)

smoothie

My morning smoothie: fresh bananas, frozen blackberries, ricemilk and rice protein powder. I’m planning to make morning smoothies, or green juices, a daily habit. Mmmm :)

Breakfast (3/15/11 11:01 AM)

vitamin loading

Emergen-C. I suspect there might be some additives in this that I don’t want to consume regularly, but it’s an easy way to get a vitamin boost once in a while. I've got major paranoia today about potential radiation exposure and my seemingly weakened immune system. Going to make sure I get lots of rest, vitamins, and naturally occurring iodine for the next few days...

(3/15/11 10:51 AM)

Ashwaganda is a powerful adaptogen. I think I’m needing that lately.

(3/15/11 11:12 AM)

And, I'm back on the B12.

(3/15/11 11:13 AM)

Red Lentil Daal with Coconut Kale (R)

Spicy red lentil daal with coconut kale over sweet basmati rice. Yum!!!

Dinner (3/14/11 6:24 PM)

RECIPE: Quick & Easy Red Lentil Daal

This is a very simple, quick, "there's nothing much in the house" version of daal. When possible, I love to add fresh ginger and maybe some onions before cooking and loads of chopped tomatoes and fresh cilantro after. I also sometimes use curry powder along with or in place of the other seasonings, and I like to heat some mustard seeds in coconut oil and add that in at the end... when there's the time and energy for it! But for the easiest version, this will certainly do. Adjust the seasonings however you like... I don't think I ever use the exact same ingredients twice!

Here's what you'll need:

2 cups red lentils, rinsed well
8 cups water
1-2 cloves fresh garlic, grated
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp ground turmeric
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tbsp sea salt, or to taste
fresh lemon juice

Put all ingredients into a pressure cooker, seal, and bring to high heat until it steams. Turn it down to medium low and cook for 20 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it sit for 10 more. Release all steam safely, open it up, and see what you've got! Give it a good stir then adjust the seasonings or add more water if necessary. You can always put the pressure cooker back on if the daal is not done, no problem!

Add a squeeze of lemon and fresh cilantro if you have it, and enjoy!!!

tea

I have a long afternoon nap and then some Organic India Tulsi Lemon Ginger tea when I wake.

(3/14/11 4:31 PM)

Sunshine Wrap

Have you tried the Organic Sunshine Patty? I love it! They make a few different flavors and they're all delicious and made of wholesome ingredients.

Check it out, here’s what's in it:
(all organic)
cooked brown rice
ground raw sunflower seeds
adzuki beans
hemp seeds
onion
bell pepper
herbs
paprika
black pepper
sea salt

... all recognizable foods. Nice!!!

This afternoon for lunch I make a simple Sunshine Burger wrap. It's a delicious vegan sunflower seed and rice patty wrapped in a spinach whole wheat tortilla with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes, veganaise, nutritional yeast and hot sauce. No time for fancy today, but this is quick, easy, healthy and delicious!

(3/14/11 10:53 AM)

noni

A shot of the magical noni potion...

(3/14/11 10:23 AM)

tulsi jasmine morning

This morning I had coffee before practice, so while teaching I sip refreshing caffeine-free tulsi jasmine tea. Trying to cut down on caffeine a bit. Good Morning!

(3/14/11 7:28 AM)

mixed veg wrap

Mixed veggie wrap... Looks boring from the outside but it's full of delicious veggies! Purple potatoes, green beans, swiss chard, garlic, ginger and tempeh in a superspicy, tomato-y indian simmer sauce then wrapped into a spinach whole wheat tortilla with some nutritional yeast. Yum!

Dinner (3/13/11 8:18 PM)

fruit!

A big bucket of fruits. Didn't eat these yet but I will this week!

porch picnic

I have a superlate Sunday morning practice then a solo leftover pizza and wine picnic on the porch this afternoon.

(3/13/11 3:10 PM)

pizza

Slippedy sloppedy vegan cheese pizza. Plain and simple just with some red pepper flakes. Looks like tons of cheese melting off the sides doesn't it? I love that :)

Dinner (3/12/11 7:50 PM)

A beautiful sunset alone...

A magical little raw vegan lilikoi pie, and sips of red wine...

Heaven.

Morning Snack (3/12/11 10:27 AM)

YST

Today at the shala we are participating in a global special event called Yoga Stops Traffick. We’ll do a series of Surya Namaskara together and I’m going to call the traditional count in Sanskrit like our teachers do in Mysore. All donations will benefit Odanadi, a charity in Mysore working with survivors of human trafficking.

Thank you Pineapple Yoga students for your presence and generous donations!

(... And there's my Chai, good morning!)

(3/12/11 7:25 AM)

carrot cake

... And some carrot cake for dessert. I made a little baby cake along with the bigger ones the other day, so tonight I just wrapped that in foil and heated it in the oven, then spread with the extra cream cheese frosting. An easy sweet treat!

(3/11/11 8:31 PM)

tempeh noodles

Tempeh noodles. Spicy and sesame-y, with loads of tempeh, swiss chard and black sesame seeds and a garlic, lemon, red pepper flake, shoyu, sesame oil sauce.
